MegaVision travels to Scotland, Images Livingstone Personal Papers SANTA BARBARA, Calif., June 23 - MegaVision Inc. announced involvement in the imaging of David Livingstone material at the National Library of Scotland. MegaVision president, Ken Boydston joins a team of researchers and archivists to provide multi-spectral imaging equipment for use in the digital capture of Livingstone's personal documents. Dr. David Livingstone was one of the great African missionaries, a medical doctor, explorer and advocate against the slave trade in Africa. In his final years, supplies for documenting his findings and writing correspondence dwindled and he was reduced to writing on used newspaper and other found material. In addition, he concocted his own inks from berry juice. Much of the material is now virtually unreadable as paper has disintegrated and inks have faded. The use of the MegaVision EurekaVision™ which uses 12 different wavelengths of light allows taking multiple images that are then processed digitally. These images, when enhanced using image analysis software, can pick out the eroded text thus making it available for study. The restoration of the letters will be done by researchers from Birkbeck College, University of London, the National Library of Scotland and the David Livingstone Centre. The documents will eventually be made available to the public through the Livingstone Online website.
